Katie Melua-Spider's Web, a troubled song in troubled times.

By Ted Botting

Browsing around the web I stumbled across Spider's Web a song being used as a sound track for a video showing still images of car drawings, not very fitting but I immediately caught the lyrical truth being expressed in the song.

The lyrical content of the song clearly states that the difference between wrong and right is never so simple as to be seen easily in black and white. It draws comparisons with racism, bullying and war but never tips into aggression like so many anti war songs often do. It remains calm, sympathetic and strong in the protest it clearly depicts as its theme

Katie Melua originally a native of Georgia then a state within the USSR where at the age of 8 she left as part of her family to settle in Belfast, Northern Ireland for 5 years when it too had great troubles. At 13 her family moved to South East London where she has pursued a career as a performer.

Perhaps those early years of living in two countries of disturbing conflict gave her the fuel to write this beautiful complex, yet simple song.

Katie has a new fan, thanks to you, Ted. Awesome song with awesome lyrics. The BEST song lyrics are drawn from life experiences. You can tell which ones they are, when you get that little lump in your throat whilst listening. YOU become a PART of the song writer's world and when that happens, it's an AWESOME feeling. Thank you for sharing Katie with us.

Thanks John you have said a lot for me as well there, ace description.

I meant to give some examples of the type of song I was mentioning in my previous comment. The three I would like to share are:

Everybody Hurts by REM

Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell
(I liked the Judy Collins Version better.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DH70wYWsK0

Send In The Clowns by Barbra Streisand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnwJ5KIcKX4

Enjoy the experiences.

Hey Frederick, just when I least expect it you sneak up on me and am sooo glad you liked it, thank you.

Evokes pathos, and crescendos - daddy likes. Will definitely use this as the soundtrack for the ending scene of my upcoming blockbuster Hollywood movie. As Katie sings the camera shall spiral vertically away from my prone and bleeding self. Perfect. Now all I need is an agent, a producer, a director, and a script. And $100 million.

Hey Nick, have you heard The Red Army Blues by the Waterboys, it is the best song ever sung of its kind, if you strip the $100 million packaging from Spiders Web it too has essence.

The same song filmed in the living room emmasingy, me singing "spider's web" de katie melua. i love this song, as a prime example of what I mean. Thank you for the opportunity and kudo to both you and emmasingy.
